MERV 8-11 is the standard range for most residential furnaces - effective for dust, pollen and pet dander without restricting airflow too much. MERV 13 is the residential sweet spot for allergy households - captures 90% of bacteria-sized particles. MERV 14-16 captures more but needs a deep media filter housing and static-pressure verification.
